Job Description: The RN staff nurse assumes primary responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for assigned patients. A RN Registry plans and sets goals which demonstrate a holistic approach to patients and families. Assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level. Demonstrates a mastery of clinical skills.
Accountabilities:

4. Nursing Process: Demonstrates the use of nursing process as a problem-solving model.

Leadership/Collaboration/Professional Development: Demonstrates respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines and participates as an effective member of the patient care team to formulate an integrated approach to care. Addendum:
Nurse/Patient Relationships Plans, implements, evaluates, and modifies patient care management, related to procedural events and outcomes; Evaluates the patient/family response to the health care experience and redirects care appropriately. Assuring/Improving Quality Care Able to perform decentralized lab testing and QA maintenance in accordance with policy. Incorporates results in plan of care; Assumes on-call responsibilities Applies teaching and learning principles in implementing cardiac cath lab standards of care; Complies with established radiation safety standards. Education/Competency Provides for the special needs and behaviors of specific age groups served by the cardiac cath lab; Demonstrates competence in completion procedural documentation and assessment (written and computerized formats); Performs post-procedural patient follow-ups; Maintains departmental based mandatory educational requirements; Credentials on the following skills and equipment: ACLS, Cardioversion, Hemostasis, IABP Monitoring, Hemochron Nursing Process Interviews and obtains history utilizing direct and indirect sources of data. Assesses patients through physical assessment and the integration of physiologic data from monitoring devices; Demonstrates basic skills in diagnostic and interventional procedures functioning in various roles of circulating, scrub assistant, and hemodynamic monitoring; Understands pharmacological properties for medications related to cardiac cath lab procedures and evaluates patient response; Demonstrates appropriate actions in anticipated and actual life threatening situations; Analyzes and interprets hemodynamic and oximetric data and takes appropriate nursing actions; Proficient in Conscious Sedation administration, recovery, discharge, and documentation. Leadership/Collaboration/Professional Development Attends 50% of monthly staff meetings/inservices; Attends cath lab team meeting to discuss process improvement initiatives for the department; Assesses own educational needs, planning, and implementing strategies to meet knowledge deficiencies.
